Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 2017 Notification, AFCAT 2017 online application, Exam Details, Exam Date, Online Application process

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct the AFCAT 02/2017 examination on 27 August 2017 for which online applications are being accepted now. The official notification for AFCAT 02 2017 examination has been released and the last date for online application is 29th June 2017.

Online applications are invited from interested and eligible candidates for July 2018 courses for Short Service Commission (SSC) grant in Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches.

About AFCAT

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force twice (usually in February and September) every year for selection of Officers in various branches of the force including

  1. Flying Branch (Short Service Commission)
  2. Technical Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
  3. Ground Duty Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)

AFCAT 2/2017 Eligibility Criteria


1) Flying Branch

Education: Graduation (min 3 years) in any discipline with min 60% marks OR B.E/ B.Tech from a recognized University with min 60% marks. Candidates must have passed Maths and Physics with minimum 60% in each subject at 10+2 level.

Age Limit: 20 to 24 years as on 01.07.2018 (born between 02.07.1994 to 01.07.1998 including both dates). Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and Current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years i.e. born between 02.07.1992 to 01.07.1998 (both dates inclusive).

Min Height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight

Min Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other

2) Ground Duty (Technical) Branch

Education: Four year degree qualification in relevant field of engineering OR should have cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60% marks for Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)} and Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}.posts. Candidates must have passed Maths and Physics with minimum 60% in each subject at 10+2 level.

Age Limit: 20 to 26 years on 01.07.2018 (born between 02.07.1992 to 01.07.1998 including both dates)

Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women – 152 cms

3) Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch

Education: Graduate degree (Min 3 years) in any discipline with min 60% marks or equivalent or cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a min of 60% marks or equivalent for Administration and Logistics posts

B.Com (Min 3 years) with min 60% marks for Accounts posts

MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree (Minimum 2 years) in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT / Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation for Education posts

Age Limit: 20 to 26 years on 01.07.2018 (born between 02.07.1992 to 01.07.1998 including both dates)

Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women – 152 cms

* Candidates, who have failed the PABT test earlier, are not eligible for this exam.

* Final year/semester students can also apply for AFCAT 2017 exam given that they have secured minimum 60% marks in aggregate so far with no present backlog and must be able to provide provisional or original degree certificate latest by 15 June 2018.

AFCAT 02/2017 Selection Process

AFCAT selection process involves following steps

  1. Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT – only for Ground Duty Technical branch).
  2. AFSB Interview
    1. Screening test
    2. Psychological test, Group Test, Medical Test and Interview
    3. CPSS (Computerized Pilot Selection System) and/or PABT only for Flying branch

How to Apply?

Eligible and interested candidates can now apply online on the website careerairforce.nic.in or by following the steps given below

  1. Click on ‘New Registration’ link below
  2. Fill in your details in the Registration form and Submit
  3. A User ID and password will be sent to your email.
  4. Use the User ID and password to login by using the ‘Login to Apply Online’ link below
  5. Fill in your application form, Upload recent color passport size photograph, signature, and thumb impression
  6. Complete the application and Take a print out
  7. On successful completion of Application, candidates will receive Registration ID in their email

Changes/ Modification in Submitted Application

Many candidates are asking questions about whether it is possible to change or edit information once the application is submitted. Well, here is your answer

  • AFCAT doesn’t allow you to edit or change any details in your application once it is submitted (No further changes would be allowed after final submission of the form)
  • You cannot fill duplicate application with the same details (Name/ Email) as it will lead to rejection

      AFCAT Admit Card printout
      Paste a Self attested photograph similar to the one submitted in the Online Application form in the space given in the Admit Card
      A valid photo identity (ID of College, Passport, Driving License, Aadhaar Card, Pan Card, Voters ID Card)
      blue/black ball point pen and clipboard
      No Calculators, Log Tables, PDA and Mobile Phones

In official afcat advertisement dey haven’t mentioned As 60% marks overall aggregate of all yrs ,while filling up d form too dey haven’t askd percentage of each sem or tears ,, ,, so v hv to fill it as per university norms right ? ,, some university takes degree percentage as aggregate of last two yrs of engineering ,, so same % has to b enterd?

      Please check your details carefully in Application 4 & 5 to make sure that you are eligible. As per photo, you need to upload a recent colour passport size photograph (size 10 to 50 KB)

      there is one more question i.e. i have done my B-TECH under P.T.U but in field there are following universties :

      -Ensure that your university is recognized by UGC / AICTE / DEC/ Min of HRD
      -For all other institutions, an equivalence certificate is required to be provided from one of the above mentioned statutory bodies.
      so what i have to write in that field

    While filling the online application form of AFCAT, no option for EKT is visible.
    I have scored 71% in B.E.
    67 in 10+2
    76 in physics and
    61 in maths.
    Still no option available for EKT.

      There is no separate option for EKT. You can apply for Ground duty Technical branch if you want to attend EKT exam
