The Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct the AFCAT 01/2018 examination online in February 2018 (expected) for which online registrations have started now. The official notification for AFCAT 2018 examination has been released now and updated here.

Official Notice (As per notification): Online applications are invited for the courses commencing in January 2019 for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission (PC) / Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical
and Non-technical) Branches. Online applications are also invited for grant of PC/SSC for Flying Branch through NCC Special Entry Scheme and Meteorology Entry.

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is conducted by the Indian Air Force twice (usually in February and September) every year for selection of Officers in various branches of the force including

Type of Commission

(a) PC for Men: Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation as per their branch and rank.

(b) SSC for Men & Women

  1. The engagement period for Flying Branch SSC officers is fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable).
  2. The initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech and Non-tech) Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, suitability, service requirements and availability of vacancies.

 

AFCAT 1/2018 Eligibility Criteria

1) Flying Branch


Education: Graduation (min 3 years) in any discipline with min 60% marks OR B.E/ B.Tech from a recognized University with min 60% marks. Candidates must have passed Maths and Physics with minimum 60% in each subject at 10+2 level.

Age Limit: 20 to 24 years as on 01.01.2019 (born between 02.01.1995 to 01.01.1999 including both dates). Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and Current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years i.e. born between 02.01.1993 to 01.01.1999 (both dates inclusive).

Min Height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight

Min Vision: 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other

* Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course. Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible.

2) Ground Duty (Technical) Branch

Education: Four year degree qualification in relevant field of engineering OR should have cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with 60% marks for Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE (L)} and Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) {AE (M)}.posts. Candidates must have passed Maths and Physics with minimum 60% in each subject at 10+2 level.

Age Limit: 20 to 26 years on 01.01.2019 (born between 02.01.1993 to 01.01.1999 including both dates)

Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women – 152 cms

* Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course. Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible.

3) Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch

Education: Graduate degree (Min 3 years) in any discipline with min 60% marks or equivalent or cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a min of 60% marks or equivalent for Administration and Logistics posts

B.Com (Min 3 years) with min 60% marks for Accounts posts

MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree (Minimum 2 years) in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT / Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation for Education posts

Age Limit: 20 to 26 years on 01.01.2019 (born between 02.01.1993 to 01.01.1999 including both dates)

Min Height: 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women – 152 cms

* Candidates, who have failed the PABT test earlier, are not eligible for this exam.

* Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course. Widowers and divorcees (with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible.

* Final year/semester students can also apply for AFCAT 2018 exam given that they have secured minimum 60% marks in aggregate so far with no present backlog and must be able to provide provisional or original degree certificate latest by 15 November 2018.

AFCAT 01/2018 Selection Process

AFCAT selection process involves following steps

  1. Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT – only for Ground Duty Technical branch) – Online mode.
  2. SSB Interview
    1. Screeing Test

      1. Officer Intelligence rating Test.
      2. Picture perception and Discussion Test.
    2. CPSS (Computerized Pilot Selection System) and/or PABT only for Flying branch
    3. Stage-II Test
      1. Psychological tests
      2. Group Tests
      3. Interview

Registration Fee

Candidates registering for AFCAT entry will have to pay an amount of Rs. 250/- as examination fee. However, candidates registering for Meteorology entry and NCC Special entry are not required to pay any amount.

Eligible and interested candidates can now apply online on the website afcat.cdac.in or by following the steps given below

  1. Click on ‘New Registration’ link below
  2. Fill in your details in the Registration form and Submit.
  3. A User ID and password will be sent to your email.
  4. Use the User ID and password to login by using the ‘Login to Apply Online’ link below.
  5. Reset your password on the next page.
  6. Select exam category from – AFCAT, NCC Flying branch, and Metrology branch.
  7. Read instructions
    1. Fill in your application form
    2. Upload documents
    3. select exam city
    4. make fee payment
    5. check payment status
    6. Preview application
    7. Download application copy
  8. On successful completion of Application, candidates will receive Registration ID in their email

Renumerations

Pay (As per 7 CPC)

  • Flying officer: Rs. 56100 – 110700
  • Flight cadets shall receive a fixed stipend of Rs 56,100/- per month for the period of training.

Allowances: In addition to pay, allowances are applicable based on nature of duty/ place of posting and includes Flying, Technical, Field Area, Special Compensatory (Hill area), Special Force, Siachen, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area and Remote Locality Allowance.

Privileges: Air Force Officers are entitled to furnished accommodation, comprehensive medical cover for self and dependents, Canteen, Officers’ Mess facilities, loans at subsidised rates, LTC and leave (60 days annual and 20 days casual) subject to service exigencies.

Insurance: Rs.75 Lakhs Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to serving officers. Additional cover of Rs.10 Lakhs (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers.

Sports and Adventure: Indian Air Force provides state of the art facilities to play various sports. In addition to sports, officers have an opportunity to participate in various adventure sports such as sky diving, micro light flying, mountaineering, water rafting etc.

Changes/ Modification in Submitted Application

Many candidates are asking questions about whether it is possible to change or edit information once the application is submitted. Well, here is your answer

  • AFCAT doesn’t allow you to edit or change any details in your online application once it is submitted. (No further changes would be allowed after final submission of the form)
  • You cannot fill duplicate application with the same details (Name/ Email) as it will lead to rejection.

    Sir,
    While filling the online application form of AFCAT, no option for EKT is visible.
    I have scored 71% in B.E.
    67 in 10+2
    76 in physics and
    61 in maths.
    Still no option available for EKT.

      There is no separate option for EKT. You can apply for Ground duty Technical branch if you want to attend EKT exam

      Dear you must have selected wrong educational qualification.
      there must be one column where you have to select groupa ,b ,c d (one option out of these 4) being from engineering background u have yo select either group a or group b according to ur branch.
      ur problem will be sorted then

      It’s probably because of the busy server as it is the last day for registration. Just keep trying, it will work eventually. The AFCAT contact information is given at the bottom of the post.

      Maybe for Ground duty. The applications for this year are already over. You can apply in December for AFCAT 2018 exam

      Yes, it is clearly written in the post that the AFCAT exam will now conducted online. And yes, there is an application fee of Rs. 250/- for all AFCAT applicants.
